This large visual work covering the floor of the lounge on the first floor of the hotel mixes African and Japanese cultures and builds, through the scattered distribution of plates with different ethnic designs, a chaotic ‘path’ through which one can walk or jump from one plate to another. Beneath this path is an ‘autumn lake’ on which different kinds of flowers and wilted leaves float.
Between this lake and these paths of African plates swim exotic fish, some reminiscent of Japan, others of Africa. Among them, a large orange-coloured Japanese carp stands out, entangled between the plates and leaves.
There is a certain ‘prehistoric’ air in the aesthetics of these large fish and carp that connects with the tribal, timeless beauty of the different dishes that make up the paths that run between this lake. The aesthetics of some may be more reminiscent of Japan and others more of Africa.
