nhow Amsterdam Rai Hotel

Murals for conference rooms

The hotel’s conference rooms cover their walls with two long murals that, although not shown in their entirety owing to the architectural barriers present in the rooms, provide an eclectic ambience full of surrealism and multiculturalism bathed in colourful and intricate compositions of great visual charge.
These pieces take the hotel’s global concept of the mixture of cultures to the point of a visual journey through an invisible timeline through which the different iconic elements that interrelate in the chaotic intercultural melting pot that gives shape to the graphic composition transit and transform.

The extensive mural for the Wasabi conference room expresses the concept of the melting pot through the prism of a visual journey: a series of iconic elements referencing Japanese, African and Mexican cultures are interwoven through a long timeline that is structured along transformations and transitions between graphic elements.
To create the visual structure of the transformations I was inspired by the legendary artist M. C. Escher. Although my work retains his uniqueness and unique creativity, I have incorporated the essence of the transitions between elements developed by Escher as inspiration when combining the elements of each scene of this extensive mural.

Vanilla room mural

The mural for the Vanilla conference room blends Japanese and Mexican cultures through an intricate melting pot of floral elements punctuated with cultural icons.
The creativity of this piece visually connects with the mural located in the hotel’s Cocktail Bar. The structure of this mural is structured with three levels of protagonism: on the first level are a series of Mexican catrinas transformed in some cases into Japanese geishas. On the second level, a melting pot of iconic elements from the three cultures “floats” among the catrinas. On the third level an ocean of flowers serves as a visual bed in which the elements of the other two levels swim.
