nhow Amsterdam Rai Hotel

nhow Amsterdam Rai is a 4-star hotel designed by renowned architect Reinier de Graaf, located next to the Rai Convention Centre in Amsterdam.

As a collaborator of the architectural firm GLG Architects, in charge of the interior design, I created the headboards for the 650 rooms of the hotel, the theming of which is inspired by the cardinal point towards which they face (East, South, North, South West, South East and North West) and the culture associated with it.

PANORAMIC MURAL FOR THE LOBBY

In the heart of the hotel, located in the lobby corridor, I have created a mural of large dimensions. This is no ordinary mural. Instead of being printed, my design was projected with light onto the bare wall, giving life to a blank canvas. An expert painter then traced and filled in the contours with his brush, giving rise to an organic result reminiscent of urban art in its purest essence.

The creativity of the composition is based on the central concept of the hotel: the mix of world cultures. This concept serves as the backbone and is materialized in a surreal scene divided into three visual layers that interact and intertwine:

A COMPOSITION WITH THREE VISUAL LAYERS

In the foreground, closer to the viewer, a series of iconic Japanese characters along with emblematic carp move and jump over the waves. These waves, with their stylized movement and fluidity, are reminiscent of the unmistakable style of the Japanese artist Hokusai.

The second layer introduces a composition formed by a web of Japanese vegetation, African masks and Mexican catrinas. This cultural mosaic adds to the waves an exuberant visual landscape, dotted with nuances and details that invite detailed observation.

Finally, the third and last layer presents a background landscape elaborated with traditional Japanese style brushstrokes. This layer adds depth to the mural and serves as a backdrop for the previous two layers, closing the composition with a touch of serenity and balance.

The result is a mural that not only adorns, but also tells a visual story, an ode to the mixing of cultures and creative exchange.
