ETERNAL ROME: LAYERS OF HISTORY
Rome is known as ‘the eternal city’. A city through which time does not pass, in which all the stages of history survive, forever, like layers in a wall.
From this premise, the concept of ‘layers of history’ was born, in which, as if an archaeologist were looking for ancient Roman ruins and gradually peeling away layers of a wall, an exciting journey through the history of Rome is shown, defined by iconic visual elements that represent the most relevant historical stages of the city (Ancient Rome, Renaissance, contemporary period).

‘ROME: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER’.
This retro-futuristic artwork presides over the headboard of the room and is presented in the form of three arched windows. The hotel’s concept of ‘layers of history’ is expressed in this work through the discovery of a painting related to ancient Rome. The composition shows an old broken wall behind which different layers are visible.
The most superficial layer shows the remains of deteriorated posters representing contemporary Rome. Elements representative of a Rome reinvented through design and fashion in the 20th century and its evolution during the 21st century.
Behind the surface layer, some semi-destroyed areas of the wall are visible.
The deepest layer leaves a semi-discovered painting set in ancient Rome, showing a Roman centurion (the actual painting is from a later period).
The effects of decay and tearing enhance the concept of ‘layers of history’ that are uncovered as if peeling an onion.
